MOON MOUNTAIN SANCTUARY & RESCUE

About Moon Mountain

Moon Mountain began with a simple belief: given safety, good food, space, and a steady loving presence, an animal can find its way back to itself.

Our story

What started as one woman taking in animals in need has grown into a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses from across America — including wild mustangs, tribal horses, domestic horses, owner surrenders, and horses pulled from the slaughter pipeline.

But rescue is only part of our work.

At Moon Mountain, we believe horses are asking us to look at something much bigger: how we value animals, how we steward the land, and what happens when living beings become commodities inside systems that have forgotten their worth.

A place for second chances.

Our sanctuary in the mountains of Arkansas is a place for second chances. Horses arrive frightened, neglected, misunderstood, unwanted, and sometimes only days away from slaughter. Here, they are given time. They are fed. They are handled with patience. They learn. They heal. And whenever possible, they leave us for carefully chosen forever homes. For those who need sanctuary, Moon Mountain becomes home.

Our values

We don't believe rescue should end at the gate. Our mission reaches beyond these 160 acres — into education, adoption, advocacy, land stewardship, and the fight to protect America's horses from exploitation and slaughter.

Every animal who comes through Moon Mountain carries a story.

And every story reminds us of something we believe deeply: Wild should mean free. Rescue should mean safe. And no life should be disposable.
